30 Reasons to Love New Zealand

There are many a reason to love New Zealand. In fact here are 30 of those reasons just in case you need further convincing.

  1. Stunning Natural Landscapes – It’s no lie that New Zealand is home to some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world.
  2. The Friendliest People – New Zealanders are also some of the nicest people in the world in my experience.
  3. Proximity to Australia – This is great news for me because it means it’s just a short 2 hour flight away from Sydney!

  4. Adventure Capital – You wanna go bungy jumping, canyon swinging, jet boating, white water rafting, mountain biking, snowboarding, canyoning, luging, zorbing, sky diving and more? New Zealand is the place to do it.
  5. The Haka – This traditional war cry is just so captivating.
  6. The All Blacks – One of the world’s most well-known rugby teams partly for their excellence in the sport and also for their Haka performances.
  7. Great Wine – Award winning wine is just as good excuse to visit as any.
  8. Great Dining – Even in the stereotypical party towns like Queenstown it doesn’t have to be burgers or pizza. There can find some phenomenal up market places to eat if you look around.
  9. A Road Tripper’s Dream – While public transport may be cheap, hire car or camper van is definitely the easiest and most convenient way to get around. Make sure you’ve got decent playlist ready for those long scenic drives.

  10. Cultural Appreciation – The Maori culture in New Zealand is rich and diverse and essential to learn about upon visiting the land of their ancestors.
  11. Black Water Rafting – There are few places in the world where you can sit in a rubber tube and float through a dark cave with glow worms lighting the ceiling.
  12. You Can’t Sue – Something I found out on my last trip there. Not really relevant but its a fun fact!
  13. The Australian vs New Zealand Rivalry – The rivalry can get pretty intense at times but we love each other really. It’s like a sibling relationship, we can pick on each other but if someone else tries to join it is strictly not allowed. This rivalry gets pretty heated with sport.

  14. The Puns – All pun lovers must visit the town of Bulls in the North Island at least once in their lives. It’s laughabull!
  15. The Kiwi Bird – The most famous bird in New Zealand.
  16. Other Native Birds – Other stunning native birds also include the pukeko, kakapo and kea.
  17. The Sheep – New Zealand have a fair few sheep but there are actually a lot more countries that have a lot more sheep than New Zealand. It’s just one of those stereotypes but they own it.
  18. Killer Ski Season – I call it a killer ski season because in Australia it is incredibly average. There is more snow, more choice of ski fields and pretty similar in price. Also for me, Queenstown is just a short 2 hour flight away whereas the ski fields in Australia are at least a 5 hour drive.
  19. Fergburger – Gets a special mention of its own because it is truly one sensational burger. Its worth the hype just make sure you get one when you’re in Queenstown.

  20. Volcanoes – There are plenty of them in New Zealand!
  21. Lord of The Rings – Whether you’re a fan of the films or not some of the film locations are incredibly beautiful.
  22. Lolly Cake – A delicious and easy to make sweet treat well worth a try if you chance upon one.

  23. Hokey Pokey – Toffee pieces in vanilla ice cream.
  24. Tip Top – For only a few dollars grab yourself a cone of ice cream from a corner shop.
  25. Chocolate Fish – Chocolate coated marshmallow that is fish-shaped – yum!
  26. Beer and Cider – Speight’s and Monteith’s are the two popular New Zealand brands.
  27. Progressiveness – Achievements include being the first country to allow women to vote and more recently legalizing gay marriage. I’m not overly political but I can appreciate when a country is taking a step to improve the lives of its residents.

  28. Kiwi Sense of Humour – Always up for a laugh.
  29. Walks/Hikes/Tramping/Camping – A decent pair of shoes will be needed every trip.
  30. The Feeling of Wanting to Drop Everything and Live There – New Zealand can certainly have that effect on you!
